Medical Volunteer Program

Developing countries around the world are facing a critical shortage of health workers. The World Health Organization estimates that over 4 million more health workers are needed to bridge the gap, with 1.5 million needed for Africa alone. In addition to the lack of personnel, existing health staff are often in need of training and stronger management systems.
CMMB’s Medical Volunteer Program (MVP) addresses the global human resources for health crisis by recruiting and placing volunteers at healthcare facilities in resource-poor countries around the world. Building on CMMB founder Dr. Paluel Flagg’s vision of establishing a volunteer medical mission program, the MVP has sent licensed medical professionals to provide care directly to those in need for nearly 100 years. The program also places public health and non-medical professionals to address broader health needs within communities and strengthen health management and information systems. These “MVPs for Change” provide and increase access to health services while building local capacity to ensure long-lasting impact.
